Gabriel Garcia Marquez (1927–2013) was a Colombian novelist and short story writer. He is best known for his monumental bildungsroman One Hundred Years of Solitude. His works have been translated into more than forty languages and he is widely regarded as one of the most significant authors of the twentieth century. He won the 1982 Nobel Prize in Literature.
