Army as a private. After being wounded, he was honorably discharged to join the American Expeditionary Forces as an ambulance driver with the rank of sergeant. After the war, Mr. Bruner continued writing for "Adventure" until it folded in 1922, when he joined "The American Magazine".

He also wrote for "Collier's" and "World's Work". Other works included The Reluctant Heroine (1921), The Highways of Tomorrow (1922), Madeline (1925), The Secret of Stonewall Jackson (1927), The Stolen Vine (1928), and The Oasis (1932). He died on November 10, 1939 at age 68.
