Franz Karl Achard was a renowned contemporary psychiatrist, psychotherapist and pioneer in the fields of child and adolescent psychiatry and neuropsychiatry. He was professor of psychiatry at the University of Vienna from 1947 to 1967, as well as director of the Child Guidance Clinic from 1951 to 1957. In 1959 he was appointed as a consultant at the International Psychoanalytical Association's World Health Organization Consultation.
