Frank Watson Dyson was born in 1913. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and a former member of the Alpine Club. Dyson has been a regular contributor to The Polar Times since 1956, and was appointed Polar Historian for the British Antarctic Survey in 1962. In 1966 he was awarded the Polar Medal, and in 1979 he received the Polar Medal from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
Dyson has been president of the British Explorers Club since 1978. He has published over 100 scientific papers and lectured extensively on polar subjects both in the UK and abroad.
