Frank M. Ochberg is an elected member of both the Institute of Medicine (IOM) and the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), and he served on the Board of Governors for both organizations. He recently served on three NIH Committees, including the Committee on Data Dissemination to Clinicians; the Advisory Committee to NIH Director Francis Collins; and the Scientific Review Board for Mental Illness Research at NIH. He serves on other advisory boards and committees, including NARSAD (the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression), the American Psychiatric Foundation, and NIMH's Council on Clinical Affairs.

His research has focused on major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia, cognitive impairment in schizophrenia, neuroimaging in schizophrenia, neurodegeneration in Alzheimer's disease, cognitive correlates of memory function in Alzheimer's disease, neurodegeneration in Parkinson's disease, mild traumatic brain injury/concussion syndrome and head trauma with posttraumatic stress disorder.
