Francis L. Lucas was born in Lancaster County, Virginia, in 1831. He attended the University of Virginia and moved to Richmond in 1846 where he practiced medicine until he enlisted in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. Mr
Lucas later moved to Texas, where he became a partner in a mercantile firm and also developed cotton plantations. He returned to medical practice after the war, but after an illness of six months, he died at his home in Kennesaw, Georgia on November 9, 1906.
