Fidel Castro is a Cuban politician who served as Prime Minister of Cuba from 1959 to 1976, President of the Councils of State, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, and President of the National Assembly. He was also the founder and leader of the Communist Party of Cuba. After leaving politics in 1976, Castro assumed the position of Prime Minister until his retirement in 2008. He maintained his influence in international affairs as a Marxist–Leninist and anti-imperialist statesman until his death in November 2016 at age 90.
