Evgeny Shvarts was the youngest of three boys. Both his older brother are famous Russian authors, but he was most famous for being a “fairytale writer.” He was born in Russia in November 1878, and died in St. Petersburg in February 1958. Shvarts is one of the most prolific Russian fairy tale writers of all time, with no fewer than 250 fairy tales to his credit
He also wrote several collections of Russian fairytales, including “Fairytales” (1899), “Fairy Tales” (1903), “Fairy Tales” (1906), and “Russian Fairy Tales” (1900); as well as the popular epos “The Tale of Tsar Saltan” (1912). Shvarts is also famous for his semi-autobiographical novels, such as “My Childhood,” and “The Stories of Old Russia.”
