Ernst Walter Zeeden was born in 1923 in Strasbourg, France. He studied at the University of Geneva and received his doctorate in economics at the University of Freiburg. He became a professor of economics at the University of Cologne and later taught at the universities of Frankfurt and Bonn. He worked for the German Federal Ministry of Finance, where he formulated many of his economic theories.
