During this time, she met and fell in love with fellow actor Gary Coleman, who eventually became her husband. While working on the show "Happy Days," Erin learned of a role in a movie titled "Hollywood or Bust." The movie was filmed in Los Angeles and Erin decided to migrate to Los Angeles with Gary and his father. She made her way to Hollywood and began appearing in film and television roles.

Her career saw a breakthrough when she landed the role of Cindy McConnell on the hit television series "Happy Days," which ran for six years from 1974-1984. She also went on to appear in several other television shows such as "Mork & Mindy" and "Laverne & Shirley." In 1979, she starred opposite Burt Reynolds in the drama "Sharky's Machine." In 1982, Erin made headlines when she became the first woman ever to play a major league baseball player when she played Richie Sexson on the ABC hit sitcom "The New Leave It To Beaver." After collecting her paycheck, Erin returned home to Findlay where she met up with Gary who was now a full-time actor. In 1996 Erin was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a lumpectomy followed by chemotherapy treatment. She underwent more chemo treatments before being declared cancer-free by doctors at Cleveland Clinic. Shortly after announcing that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, she publicly revealed that she had been battling an addiction problem for many years prior to being diagnosed.
