Elinor Glyn was born in London, to a well-to-do family. Encouraged by her father, a doctor at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, she developed a love for books and reading from an early age. In 1892, at the age of fourteen, she published her first novella, "The Red Room." Elinor continued writing throughout her life – novels, short stories and plays – and is best known for the novella "Kathleen" (1924) and her novel "Edward" (1928)
She worked as a scriptwriter for a number of highly successful films before turning to writing full-time. Her last novel was published in 1948. She died in 1950 after succumbing to lung cancer.
