E.L. Neve was born in Cresco, Iowa in 1876. He graduated from the University of Nebraska and was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. In 1905, Neve began working as an editor for the Lincoln, Nebraska, Journal and in 1911 he became its publisher and manager
In 1915, Neve started his own business, and in 1920 he moved to Omaha and started the Creighton Journal there. In 1926, Neve became vice-president of the Omaha World Herald and in 1930 he became president of the paper. During World War II, Neve served as director of war production for the War Production Board and was elected to the General Motors Corporation board of directors in 1943.
In 1947, Neve became chairman of the board of directors for National Cash Register Corporation (NCR) and remained with that company until 1961 when he became chairman and CEO of NCR. Neve died on November 15, 1966 at the age of 77 and is buried in Lincoln Cemetery in Omaha.
