Eiji Yoshikawa was born in Hiroshima, Japan. After graduating from Osaka University, he worked as a researcher at the National Institute of Mental Health and the University of Tokyo. He has published over a hundred scientific papers on topics ranging from psychoanalysis to schizophrenia and parenting skills. In 1996 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his discoveries concerning the brain's dopamine system.
