Earl Monroe is a two-time NBA All-Star and a six-time All-NBA First Team selection. He was a member of the Milwaukee/Los Angeles backcourt that won the NBA Championship in 1971, he led the NBA in scoring in 1978, and he was named to the NBA's 50th Anniversary Team in 1989. He helped lead Lincoln to consecutive state titles in football and led them to the NJSIAA State Basketball championship game against powerhouse St. Benedict's Prep in 1967. Monroe went on to play college basketball at Kansas State University where he became one of the school's all-time greats.

He led his team to two conference championships (1965 & 67) and was named Big Eight Player of the Year (1967). After graduation, Monroe played for one season with his hometown New Jersey Americans before joining the Detroit Pistons in 1968. While playing for Detroit, Monroe developed his trademark hook shot which earned him his nickname "Mr.

Clutch" and made him an All-Star in 1971, when he led Detroit to its first NBA Championship. The following year, Monroe was traded to the Washington Bullets who he spent the next seven seasons with; he joined the Los Angeles Lakers during the 1976-77 NBA season. He retired after spending his last four seasons with Golden State.
