Dyan Cannon was born in 1942 in Los Angeles, where she also grew up. She is the daughter of actor Vic Damone and actress Janis Paige. She attended Hollywood High School, where she became interested in acting, and studied drama at UCLA. After working as an extra on television shows like "Perry Mason" (1957), "Ben Casey" (1958), and "Bonanza" (1959), she made her Broadway debut in the revival of William Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew." She had her first starring role in 1959, when she appeared in the Broadway production of "Honeymoon Hotel," followed by her first film role in "The Pleasure Seekers." She starred opposite Neil Simon in the comedy "The Odd Couple" (1968), which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture
