Dor Bahadur Bista is one of the most popular Nepali poets. He was born on 26 July 1923 in Kathmandu, Nepal. His book 'Durga' (The Goddess Durga), which is considered to be his magnum opus, was published in 1967 and brought him international fame. His other collections include 'Nishan', 'Ganga', 'Charlo', 'Jagran' (Prayers) and 'Rajarshi'. He has translated several works into Nepali including "Ramayana", "Mahabharata", "Vishnu Purana" and the epic poem "Mahakavya".

He has also written many books on Nepal's history, culture and geography including "Kathmandu Hati Jatra" (The Kathmandu Festival of Garlands), "Nepal-Bhasa" (Nepal-Bengali), "Kathmandu Pahichan" (Kathmandu Days) and "Nepal-Sanskriti" (Nepal-Sanskrit).
