Thomas received his Bachelor's Degree from American University in 1950 and worked as a reporter for the Washington Post until he retired in 1992. After retirement, Mr. Thomas continued to work part-time for the Washington Post as a writer of obituaries and also worked on two books about his father with photographer Richard Tucker, who had taken many pictures of him during World War II with the U.S.
