Born in Birmingham, England in 1945, Langford spent his early childhood moving house often enough to become a professional hitchhiker. He subsequently married and settled down to a career in science. In the late 1970s he began writing fiction, and has been prolific ever since. His first novel, "Drat!" was published in 1982 by Avon Books
By the end of the decade he had published a further two novels, a short story collection and a book on writing. As well as his fiction, Langford has produced some of the most innovative and challenging critical works of our time. His most recent book is "The Science of Fear", published by Icon Books Ltd in 2016.
