Daniel Keyes is an American author, poet, short story writer, and science fiction writer. His novel Flowers for Algernon is a classic science fiction story about a mentally retarded man who becomes smarter. It has been adapted into an award-winning film of the same name, as well as two TV series. He also wrote the novel The Last Unicorn (the basis for the 1976 animated film).
