Claude Chabrol was born on February 27th 1939 in Oran, Algeria, where he grew up. After his studies at the University of Aix-Marseille, he began his career as a journalist for some newspapers. He moved on to become a screenwriter, writing many successful screenplays for directors like Alain Renais or Agnes Varda. His first feature film was "The Letter" (1957), which won the Best Film Award at the Cannes Film Festival. He first became famous with his movie Le Boucher (1970)
Here he worked once again with Alain Renais. He continued making movies until his death in 2013.
