Clara Parkes (1902 - 1997) was an American writer, editor and translator. Born in San Francisco, Parkes was educated at the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned her Ph.D in Romance languages. Following postdoctoral work in Paris, she returned to the United States to become literary editor of "The Saturday Evening Post" in New York City. Her translations of French prose include Guy de Maupassant's "Spleen" (published in 1971), Emile Zola's "Au bonheur des dames" (published in 1983), and Honoré de Balzac's "Le Cousin Pons" (published in 1992). Parkes also translated works by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Marcel Proust and Guy de Maupassant.
