Notable in this era of revival for the Peanuts franchise were the return of Bill Melendez as director and Roberta Michalka as voice-actress for Charlie Brown. The special begins with Charlie Brown at his house writing a letter to Santa Claus. Just then, he receives a package from him containing his Christmas list. He then opens it, only to discover that it is completely blank.

He then has an idea to write his own list by using every name he knows plus one extra for good luck. After writing his list, he goes through with writing out his friends' names until he runs out of ink on his paper. Later, Snoopy arrives at Charlie Brown's house with a picture of him with all of his friends on it.

He also replies that there are no more kids left in the world besides Charlie Brown's friends at school because they have all grown up and have moved away from each other while growing up, so they are no longer real people to him. After saying all of this, Snoopy suddenly "discovers" an empty box labelled "FUN", which he explains is for "fun". When asked what fun is, Snoopy replies that it's when everyone comes together to celebrate something like Christmas or Thanksgiving or even Halloween which makes Charlie Brown realize that it's Christmas time already (he is watching television when all of this happens).

The specials ends with Charlie Brown telling Snoopy that they will see Santa Claus after Christmas (the next day
