Carl Lee Perkins was born on October 3, 1932 in Van Nuys, California. He is best known as the lead singer of the rock and roll band The Blue Jeans. In 1959, he co-wrote the hit song "Carl Perkins' Blue Suede Shoes" with his friend Johnny "Guitar" Watson. The song reached #1 on the Billboard charts and became one of the most covered rock and roll songs of all time
Perkins served as a U.S. Marine in Korea and later played guitar in country music bands in Mississippi and Louisiana.
