Bruno Leoni was born in Milan, Italy, in 1917. In 1935 he received a degree in mathematics from the University of Milan and studied physics at the University of Florence. In 1937 he moved to the United States, where he taught mathematics and physics at several universities. He joined the firm of Sklar Brothers in Chicago in 1948
He was a member of the firm's management committee from 1959 to 1964 and a partner from 1964 to 1968. In 1968 he left Sklar Brothers to found his own law firm in New York, where he practiced until his death in 1989. On June 20, 1989, he received the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a lawyer when President Bush conferred upon him the rank of Ambassador at Large.
Mr. Leoni was also a director of the Council on Foreign Relations and a member of the board of directors of Chase Manhattan Bank and Guaranty Trust Company.
