Boris Vallejo was born in Barcelona, Spain on December 16, 1919. He began his artistic career as a painter and sculptor but soon turned to professional illustration. From 1946 to 1962 he worked as an illustrator for the magazines "Avance de España" and "Wings" and created covers for several popular Spanish-language comic books. In 1953 he began painting full-time and became known for his paintings of fantastic creatures and futuristic landscapes
He created many comic book covers and illustrations for the magazine "Nuestra Galeria de Artistas". In 1958 he began creating paintings of beautiful women that gained him great popularity among comic book fans. He also illustrated the "Adventures of Tintin" comic books in collaboration with Belgian cartoonist Georges Rémi, which resulted in three additional volumes of original material after the original series was completed in 1959.
Vallejo's paintings are sold in museums throughout the world including the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, The Art Institute of Chicago, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art among others.
