Billy Joe Shaver was born in Benson, North Carolina on May 23, 1947. He is the author of three books of short stories and the four previous novels in the series: Dead Man in Texas (1994), Dead Man's Hand (1996), Dead Woman's Quarry (1998), and Dead Women Don't Talk (2001). He has also written two collections of short stories, God Don't Like Ugly People and The Beast and Other Stories.
