Bernardo Atxaga was born in Aia, in the Basque Country, in 1974. He studied Communication and Sociology at the University of Barcelona and is a member of the Nuevo Ateneo, a modernist school of writing in Basque. He is the author of several collections of poetry and has published several plays, one novel and two books on film theory. Atxaga has been appointed as a member of the World Poetry Forum, which is an international organization based in Rome
