Bartholomew Dowling was born in 1637 in Dublin, Ireland. He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin, and became a Roman Catholic priest while still in his teens. He claimed to have had more than 1,000 visions, mostly of Christ and the Virgin Mary, while under the influence of the Holy Trinity. His visions were published by his son in 1717 as The History of Bartholomew Dowling
He died in 1726 in Dublin and was buried at the Church of St. John the Baptist. His tomb can be seen in the crypt of St.
John's Church.
