Autumn Jordan is a British author and journalist. She is the author of the best-selling memoir "Black Is The New White: My Journey to Reinvent My Identity" (2009). Until then, she had thought her race was white. Jordon said: "Every time I try to research my African-American roots – my mother's family – I'm bombarded with information about slavery, lynchings, Jim Crow laws, segregation, the invention of 'white' skin color." She said it is difficult to find out about her ancestors because most titles are in the public domain. Most are now available online but they are not searchable. Her book with Harvard University Press is set to be released in March 2016. She said parents should teach their children about race and not wait for them to pick up about their identities on their own. Jordon also believes that society needs to adopt more affirmative action policies so that people can have more opportunities regardless of their race or gender.
