Augustus De Morgan was a mathematician and an author of various mathematical texts. In the late eighteenth century, he became interested in philosophy and logic, and studied the works of Immanuel Kant, George Berkeley, and Gottfried Leibniz. De Morgan's published works include a number of articles on logic and a text on algebra. He published a number of papers on arithmetic theory, which were collected in "Arithmetical Analysis" (1866)
His most important work is his book "A Key to the Differential Calculus" (1871). In this book, De Morgan added a greatly simplified notation for differentiation and integration. He also invented notation for complex numbers.
In addition to his work as a mathematician, De Morgan wrote several philosophical works.
