Argus Flich was born in the town of Dąbrowa, southern Poland. He lived with his family on a small farm in the countryside until the end of World War II. At age 14, he and his family were deported to a concentration camp and later to a slave labour camp in Germany. Since liberation during the winter of 1945, Flich suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and had to endure three years of insane asylum treatment
After his release, he moved to Italy and found work as a hotel porter and waiter before he became an author. His autobiography, "Dark Heart of Europe" (2013), is described as "an explosive story of war and holocaust that has been kept secret for half a century."
