Appius Claudius Caecus was a Roman statesman and orator. He is most noted for his legal reforms, which reformed the Roman legal system from being a collection of inconsistent local customs to a coherent, uniform system based on written law (lex). He was born in Rome and studied and taught rhetoric and law under the guidance of some of the best teachers in Rome. He taught at various schools during his early career, including one at the Collegium Minus, where he was also recognized for his eloquence.
