Anthelme Brillat-Savarin was a French lawyer, politician, and writer who is mostly known for his works in gastronomy, especially his book Physiologie du goût. Born in 1755 in Paris, he was the son of a wealthy judge. He received a good education and became a lawyer in Paris in 1778. He married Juliette Druot in 1791
They had three children: Charles-Louis, Theodule, and Claire-Julie. He was elected to the French National Convention in 1792. He was imprisoned briefly for denying the monarchy but released.
On August 10, 1792, he was appointed minister of justice by Robespierre. Although he did not support the Reign of Terror at that time, he did not oppose it either. He died on March 1, 1836 in Paris at age 72
