My parents were both teachers. As a child, I was very impressionable. I watched my father struggle with his own self-confidence as he performed at school assemblies on the stage.

He would have these nervous breakdowns as soon as he got on stage. I remember him being so nervous that he would have to run out on stage before his turn came around because he was so uncomfortable. That fear stuck with me my whole life.

It's what sparked my interest in writing novels that could help people overcome their own self-doubt and fear of public speaking... Megan: What inspired you to write your book? Amy: In college I began to study psychology, which led me to write a paper about the differences between men and women's perceptions of their beauty from a psychological standpoint. It was published in a local newspaper, which led to more writing opportunities, including a weekly column at a newspaper called "Your Personal Page" where I wrote about how we can overcome our fears of public speaking through self-appreciation and self-esteem boosting techniques that others had shared with me over the years. Megan: You have many successful books under your belt – tell us about some of them? Amy: One of my favorite projects is called "The Resilient Woman's Guide To Self-Esteem." It's designed to help women feel more confident in their own skin by helping them understand why they may feel less confident than others or why they find themselves sometimes struggling to make decisions or think clearly when it comes down to making tough choices for themselves or their families.
