He taught law at American University (1953-1961), was a trial attorney for the Defense Department (1961-1963), and served as general counsel for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (1963-1965). In 1972, he was appointed as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Delaware. In 1975, Governor Pete du Pont appointed him as a judge of the Superior Court.

In 1980, he left judicial office to practice law once again as a partner in an Alexandria, Virginia firm. He died on January 26, 1992.
