Agatha Christie (19 November 1890 – 12 January 1976) was an English crime novelist, short story writer and playwright. She is best known for her 54 detective stories, which are known simply as the 'Christie' novels after their initial hero Hercule Poirot. She also wrote The ABC Murders and The Mysterious Affair at Styles. She was the first woman to win the coveted Mystery Writers of America's Edgar Award, giving her the distinction of being one of only four people to have received both the Edgar and the Nobel Prize in Literature.
